EEE

EEE stands for Eastern Equine Encephalitis which comes from being infected with the EEE virus. This virus is transmitted by mosquitoes that are infected with EEEV. This illness has a wide range of symptoms such as being completely asymptomatic to resulting in death. The CDC states that "approximately a third of all people with EEE die from the disease."

The breakdown of the two types of illnesses resulting from an EEEV infection are:

1. Systemic: symptoms may occur abruptly or after a few days and may result in chills, fever, fatigue, joint pain, or muscle pain usually lasting 1-2 weeks.

2. EEE: incubation period is usually 4-10 days with symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, cynanosis (turning blue-ish), convulsions, and coma.

The best way to avoid this infection is by prevention. Avoid contact with mosquitoes by use of repellents, wearing long sleeve shirts and pants, and remaining indoors during morning and evening activities.
